LInc
LInc (Lesbians Incorporated) began as a lesbian feminist collective in Sydney in 1986–the heyday of lesbian feminist strength– with a dream of establishing a lesbian space. In 1993 they set a target of raising $250,000. Lesbians around Australia were excited about the Project, which realised the purchse of a building in Newtown. A large political difference arose, however, between those who used the rationale of ‘diversity’ and ‘inclusivity’ to open membership to men who identify as women, ie, to accept the idea that a lesbian can have a penis. Many women resigned and withdrew from that project. More recently, funds have been diverted to small grants for lesbian projects which have proved popular to cashstrapped lesbian organisations. In 2025, $10,000 grants were offered rather than the $2,000 ones in 2024.
